Landlord Tenant Issues
According to recent U.S. Census Bureau data, close to 40% of U.S. residents rent rather than own their home. By definition, the people who rent (known as “tenants”) have a legal relationship with the owner of the property or landlord who manages the property. In Florida, tenants are protected from unscrupulous behavior by their landlord and have certain rights when it comes to the following:
- The condition and maintenance of the property you are renting.
- How your security deposit is handled and how they can make a claim against it when you leave the property.
- Your rights under the lease agreement, including (but not limited to) increases in rent, issues related to guests or pets in the property, penalty fees.
- Situations involving roommates and subtenants
